Melanie Day’s journey into the world of dance began in her early childhood. Born in Windhoek, Namibia, and raised in Germany, she started dancing at the age of three, training in RAD Ballet, ISTD Tap, and Modern and Jazz Dance. Her education eventually took her to the London Studio Centre and Dance New Amsterdam in New York City, where she studied under jazz legends like Lynn Simonson, Katiti King, Dollie Henry MBE, Jacki Mitchell, Jason Pennycooke, and many more.
Her international experience expanded as a dancer and dance captain on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, performing across the globe. Melanie’s career includes choreography credits on major productions such as Beatles – The Musical, Flashdance, and musicals like Aida, Chicago, Fame, Grease, West Side Story, and Mamma Mia. She has also contributed to regional theatre shows, community projects, and judged international dance competitions, including DIDC in Dubai.
After returning to Germany in 2014, Melanie made Bamberg her home and has become a leading figure in jazz and musical theatre education. As the founder and artistic director of MDance Company, part of the MDance Creative collective, she continues to choreograph and teach across Germany and Europe. Her creative output includes performances such as TAN-GO NIGHTS, TANZ UNLOCKED!, Gotta Dance, Jazzy Jingle Bells, and most recently Die 4 Elemente, presented at the Congress & Konzerthalle Bamberg.
Melanie’s deep connection with the stage is palpable. Her bond with mentor and friend Dollie Henry MBE continues to shape her path.
Whether performing in productions like Spamalot at ETA Hoffmann Theater or guiding the next generation of dancers, Melanie’s passion remains clear: dance is her calling.
