Welcoming Blue Makwana: Guest Teacher for Commercial Jazz at JazzDayz Bamberg 2025

Getting to know Dollie Henry MBE before her Jazz Masterclass at JazzDayz Bamberg

As we gear up for JazzDayz Bamberg in February 2025, we are beyond excited to welcome the talented Blue Makwana to our incredible line-up of guest teachers. Blue will be bringing her expertise and vibrant energy to the Commercial Jazz classes, offering dancers a unique opportunity to learn from one of the best in the industry. Let’s get to know her better through this insightful interview.

What Got You Into Dance, and Who or What Was Your Inspiration?

Blue’s passion for dance began at home, inspired by her mother, a professional dancer. "When I was younger, I used to watch my mother participate in dance classes on a weekly basis. She was amazing—continuously training and improving her craft. She never forced me to dance, which I really appreciate to this day," Blue shares. After watching her mother’s classes, Blue would return home full of inspiration and create short choreographies with her sister Honey, who is now an accomplished dancer and actress. This natural evolution led Blue to enroll in a dance training program, and the rest, as they say, is history.

What Is Your Funniest Memory of a Moment on Stage or Screen?

Even seasoned performers like Blue have had their share of unforgettable moments. "One of the funniest memories performing on stage must be when I completely forgot the choreography," she laughs. "It’s incredible how you can do a show over 100 times and still forget the steps! I carried on—as you do—and stayed within the theme of the moment, so the audience never knew. But I knew, and so did some of my fellow cast members. It was such a hilarious moment for us all."

What Advice Would You Give to Young Dancers Today?

Blue offers valuable words of wisdom for aspiring dancers. "Always work hard and figure out your 'why.' In a time when the industry is overly saturated with artists, it’s crucial to know why you’re pursuing this career. This understanding will keep you motivated, especially when facing challenges. Hard work takes you SO FAR, and it’s a privilege to choose this craft as a career. So, why not make the most of it?"
